14 sucka ass fools had something to say:
I've been misled by promising trailers before, so I will temper my response somewhat, and try to sound reasonably neutral.
ohboyohboyohboyohboyohboyohboyohboyoh
boyohboyohboyohboyohboyohboyohboyohboy
ohboyohboyohboyohboyohboyohboyohboy
ohboyohboyfuck yeah!
I watched this tonight. While I wouldn't recommend it to a normal person, I think it was pretty fantastic. Good production value (for the sets anyway, the cgi was weak, surprisingly good cast, clever plot (basically it's Beowulf) and all in all a pretty entertaining time.
Wow Joker, youre so WEIRD and NOT NORMAL. I mean, who likes movies about small underdog knight types fighting against overwhelming evil in a fantastic setting with monsters and lots of action. Its not like this could be turned repeatedly into some sort of trilogy of box office smash hits for the masses. Weirdo.
Then again, when I first saw the preview I thought it was satire. Here I thought I was normal...
Hey, good try at ssrcasm. You're really coming along in your quest for dino-evolution.
This is clearly a nerd oriented movie. It's not a sign of disrespect that I wouldn't recommend it to you or Jay G Whiz. Maybe you'd like it, but I just don't think the idea of another Vikings hunt scary monster movie is all that appealing to you guys.
There is nothing nerdy about bad taste.
Nerd: A person who is single-minded or accomplished in scientific or technical pursuits but is felt to be socially inept.
Interest in fictional creatures - unrelated.
Good point. Quoting from a dictionary is a good way to prove a point about what a word means. Connotation is for pansies, right?
I know it was different in the Jurassic age, but these days it's pretty acceptable to say that one is a "fantasy nerd" or a "Lord of the Rings dork."
There are lists for them on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/richpub/syltguides/fullview/EFKG4M2YOQP0
They give awards: http://www.theinsider.com/news/8114_Awards_Round_Up_Pan_s_Labyrinth_Wins_Fantasy_Nerd_Film_Critics_Society_s_Hearts
And they make lists, detailing their subculture: http://bookclubs.barnesandnoble.com/bn/board/message?board.id=fsf&thread.id=5757&jump=true
So until you can watch this movie and tell me you liked it, I humbly suggest you think about a little STFU :)
Boo-ya!
Pteradactually doesn't even like movies--unless you count this one.
Well, I think I qualify as a nerd in most every connotation of the word. And I have to say, with no offense to the other nerds, that this movie looks like a giant crap fest. I don't think I'd even watch it as a guilty pleasure movie when Mrs. Tramp leaves me home alone.
Personally, I like my Sci-fi and Fantasy to stay the F away from each other. Nothing good comes from combining them. Unless you're talking about Krull.
Now Pteradactually is just being mean.
I agree that zealotry for SciFi/Fantasy is not the norm and that Joker saying that he wouldn't recommend it to normal people is simply saying that he wouldn't recommend it to non fantasy geeks.
I agree with Ptera here (and with JGW about him being mean). I'll post something about the term NERD later. Prob tomorrow.
I agree with MT too. His interest in science and microscopes and animals I could care less about is nerdy.
Also, this movie looks awful. I agree with the keeping sci fi and fantasy apart mostly because I think one of them is awesome and the other is usually just an excuse for really horrendous writing to get published.
What--you're going to make us guess which one is which?
