I'd like to continue the tradition and hold the 2nd annual Men vs Culture blind taste test. We've already settled the score on American IPAs, to the detriment of our tastebuds, which were in overhopped shock for several days. This year we're going to do amber and dark lagers. This means European Amber Lagers (Marzen/Oktoberfests, Vienna Lagers), Dark Lagers (Dunkels, American Darks) and Bocks.
The date of the event will be Friday evening, October 16 at JGW's house. Just think of it as our own Oktoberfest celebration.
In order to keep some guidelines on a fairly broad category there won't be any beers above 7% ABV (no Doppelbocks, Imperials, or other "Big" Beers. Also excludes some Bocks). There won't be any Pilsners or other light colored lagers (nothing below 8 SRM on the color index). There also won't be anything too dark (nothing above 20 SRM on the color index).
I think these guidelines are strict enough to narrow down the field of commonly available beers while still giving us the freedom to express our preferences (American vs. European, Chocolaty vs. Caramelly, High ABV vs. Small ABV, Hoppy vs. Malty).
Who's In?

10 sucka ass fools had something to say:
A couple more comments:
1. I'll be buying all the bottles beforehand. I'd appreciate a 5-7 dollar donation to cover the costs. I'll figure out the costs once I buy the beer.
2. The girl in the picture won't be there. But I'm pretty good at carrying a bunch of beers too, and I'll do it with a smile on my face.
I suggest you guys test Blind Pig's Dunkelweizen from Leavenworth. I think it is excellent and I am curious what men-folk in blindfolds would think of it.
That sounds like a good idea, though it looks like it's an ale, not lager, like most weizens so it's disqualified. Maybe it can go in the next category, Weizens, sure to be a Space Zombie favorite. Until then, I will try this recommended brew.
By the way, women-folk are welcome as long as they take their beer tasting seriously. Though gestating sloths should probably sit this one out.
I also realize I can't do it on Oct 9, so I'm changing the date to Oct 16. Post updated accordingly.
I'm IN.
I can't make it.
What's an SRM?
