Jobs by gender over time.

Very interesting. Though I'd argue that it's not the best graph for visualizing progress (unless you're talking about progress for society and not progress for women). It doesn't look like progress in many instances because it's much more of a visual of how the job market has changed over time rather than how females have stepped into male roles. For example, the first thing that catches my eye is farming males going way down. This is by far the biggest thing on the screen. But this is because farming in general has gone away in the US. Then you see how many more women are waiters and you think, that's not progress. They seem to be getting more and more into an untrained labor instead of skilled jobs. But, that number going up is mostly because the number of restaurants and people eating out has gone way up.

I think a line graph for each job type showing how much percentage loss/growth year over year with a side by side comparison of women doing that job would be a much better progress visual. Though this one still is interesting in other ways.

What is an operative?

An operative is either the position Homer Simpson holds at the nuclear plant or the one held by Josh Lyman at the White House.
